5 of the Best Ways To Declutter & Organize Your Home in 2025.

We did a lot of decluttering in 2024, and I feel so much lighter this year. But now that it’s January, I’m already looking to get rid of more “stuff”. We’ll be going through a huge interior remodel in the next few months and now I feel like we need to get rid of even more!

Here’s how we tackle decluttering and organizing, without feeling totally overwhelmed, and my 5 tips to declutter and organize your home in 2025.

1. How do I start organizing my home?

  • Answer: Start small. Pick one area, like a single drawer or closet or a small room. Use the four-box (or bag) method: label boxes for “Keep,” “Donate,” “Trash,” and “Relocate.” Declutter first, then organize what’s left. Invest in storage solutions like bins, dividers, or shelves to maintain order. Amazon has a ton of ideas and suggestions on storage. Or you can even find Amazon influencers on Instagram to follow. It’ll blow our mind!

2. How do I keep my home organized with kids?

  • Answer:
    • Designate specific areas for toys, books, shoes, backpacks and school supplies. And make sure they use them!
    • Use labeled bins or baskets that are accessible to kids to encourage self-cleanup.
    • Rotate toys to reduce clutter and keep things fresh for the kids. Be sure to get rid of anything they’re not playing with and donate them to a school or give to other friends who might be interested.

3. What are the best tools for home organization?

  • Answer:
    • Clear storage bins for visibility. Think Amazon or even the Dollar Store!
    • Drawer dividers for utensils, makeup, or clothes.
    • Over-the-door organizers for shoes or cleaning supplies.
    • Hooks and wall-mounted racks for maximizing vertical space.
    • Labels to identify contents quickly. Label makers are the best things on earth!

4. How do I maintain an organized home long-term?

  • Answer:
    • Regularly schedule decluttering sessions. We have very small storage/closets in our home, so we have to change out items each season, and every holiday. Every spring, I bring out my cooler clothes and get rid of the winter clothes I didn’t touch. I do the same with my son’s closet and we either donate or throw it away.
    • The same goes for our kitchen items. Go through your fridge and spice rack and get rid of all those expired items. Plastic storage with no lids? Toss it! Doing this seasonally is a good rule of thumb for this as well.
    • Avoid “just in case” items. If you haven’t used it in a year, consider letting it go.

5. How do I organize a small home with limited storage?

  • Answer:
    • Utilize vertical spaces with shelves, hooks, and pegboards.
    • Invest in multi-functional furniture like storage ottomans or beds with drawers.
    • Use underutilized areas, such as the space under beds or behind doors.
    • Be ruthless about decluttering and only keep items that serve a purpose or bring joy.
